Four Counties To Host Conservation Bus Tour

Next Wednesday, March 5, Greenwood, Woodson, Wilson and Coffey Counties will host a conservation bus tour.

The tour will begin at 8 a.m., at the Greenwood County office, located at 1819 East River St., in Eureka. A second pick-up site will be held at 8:45 a.m. at the Woodson County Fair Grounds, Bressner Building, located at 713 S. Fry St., Yates Center.

Those attending will venture down through Wilson County before traveling back through southern Greenwood County to Neal and up to Madison before stopping in Gridley. The tour will travel back to Yates Center to conclude by 4:30 p.m.

Tour highlights include a rainfall simulator presentation along with viewing practices and subjects relating to infiltration, residue and nutrient management, cover crops; Old World Bluestem, noxious weeds and treatments, soil health, cover crops, soil testing, pollinator sites, terraces, grass waterways. Lunch will be by TNT Catering of Eureka.

Speakers involved on the tour are with the Natural Resource Conservation Service, RanchLand Feed in Madison, Toronto and Fall River WRAPS, Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition and local landowners sharing their operations at the stops.

The event is made possible by a grant received from the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts, Frontier Farm Credit of Emporia and each Conservation District.
