Four Eureka Tornado wrestlers made the short trip to Fredonia last Saturday, Feb. 22 for 3-1A Regional action, vying for the top four positions and the chance to compete at the state contest.
Eureka freshman Killian Harrington went 2-2 for the day and claimed a fourth place finish and the opportunity to compete at state this Friday-Saturday, Feb. 28-March 1, in Hays.
Also representing the Tornadoes were seniors Ethan Bauer and Kadin DeShane and freshman Fisher Hobbs.
A total of 34 Tri-Valley League boy wrestlers will be competing at the state contest, including 9 from Bluestem, 8 from Caney, 7 from Cherryvale, 3 from Humboldt, 2 from Erie and Fredonia, 1 from Eureka and Neodesha with 2 during their inaugural season.
Following are the individual match results for Eureka participants: 138: Fisher Hobbs (4-6) lost by fall to Tilir Scheeringa (Neodesha) 15-18 (Fall 1:34); received a bye; won by fall over Kegan Kelly (Oxford) 1212 (Fall 2:14); and lost by fall to Keagan Whitt (Douglass) 9-26 (Fall 1:55).
175: Kadin Deshane (9-23) lost by fall to Brayden Bosch (Neodesha) 18-15 (Fall 1:40); won by fall over Braedan Yoder (Oxford) 1-25 (Fall 2:50); won by fall over Darius Hancock (Whitewater- Remington) 5-12 (Fall 1:32); and lost by fall to Tanner Allan (Douglass) 9-12 (Fall 0:52) 190: Ethan Bauer (1617) won by fall over Mc-Coy Cody (Neodesha) 1013 (Fall 0:57); lost by fall to Cole Mathes (Humbolt) 37-4 (Fall 3:37); won by fall over Rayse Dean (Mound City-Jayhawk Linn) 9-14 (Fall 0:13); won by fall over Jackson Kleiber (Hillsboro) 6-26 (Fall 2:00); and lost by fall to Raydn Martin (Caney Valley) 29-8 (Fall 2:42).
285: Killian Harrington (6-11) placed 4th. He received a bye; won a 4-0 decision over Dahzael Castillo (Oxford) 8-16; lost by fall to Cooper Smith (Cherryvale) 33-4 (Fall 0:23); won a 1-0 decision in tie breaker - 1 over Cooper Tush (Richmond-Central Heights) 6-9; and lost a 2-4 decision to Colton Babcock (Neodesha) 26-10. A special send-off for Harrington and Lady Tornado wrestlers Harlie Owings and Maela Neill will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m.
