West Elk Basketball To Compete In 2A Sub-State Thursday & Friday

The Patriot boys went 1-1 last week, defeating Sedan 72-44, before falling Argonia, 49-52.

West Elk claimed a 15-6 over Sedan on Monday, Feb. 17 and never looked back, leading 34-15 at halftime. With one quarter remaining, West Elk held a 50-25 lead over the Blue Devils. The Patriots went on to win 72-44. Scoring for the Patriots were Garett Usry 26, Maddex Moreno 18, Kase Kill and Trent Haag each with 5, Brycen Hobbs and Gage Cook each with 4, Jacen Gaston and Jaxson Bodgahn each with 3 and Peyton Fechter and Jared Tucker both with 2.

Despite leading 12-7 after the first and 25-18 at halftime, the Patriots struggled in the third. They were outscored by Argonia 7-16 and trailed 32-34 going into the final quarter. The Patriots were unable to outscore Argonia in the final stanza and fell 49-52. Scoring for West Elk were Moreno 21, Kill 12, Usry 10, Fechter 4 and Trent Haag 2.

Details regarding the Lady Patriots games last week were unavailable at the time of publication.

The Lady Patriots (#11/8-12) will face Lyndon (#6/12-7) on Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m., at Lyndon for the opening round of Sub-State action.

West Elk boys (#7/11-10) will host Herington (#10/612) on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m.
