Fall River City Council

The Fall River City Council meets monthly on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The following report was generated from the approved minutes of the Jan. 8 meeting, which were approved at a recent meeting.

The Fall River City Council held a short regular meeting on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. The Dec. 9, 2024 minutes were approved as presented. In the absence of the treasurer, City Clerk Christy Walta presented the Treasurer’s Report. Future utility bills will show two separate charges to aide in accounting ($18 for sewer access and $14 for sewer usage), however the total amount of $32 did not change. The council approved the Treasurer’s Report and the bills presented.

During the street report, discussion was held about the Salt Springs Township road grader being used for Fall River streets. Mayor Brendan Coulter explained the plan was for regular gravel maintenance to be first priority and the streets be properly crowned, the ditches be second priority. The item was tabled until the board received costs from the Salt Springs Township board.

Reports were also given for Water/Sewer, Fire and Refuse.

Public Enforcement Officer Crystal Thomas reported that she will send out Greenwood County Landfill details with the next bills so that Fall River residents are aware of this service available to them.

During the Library report, Council Member Sue York reported that the buy a book for every child for Christmas program was successful. There were 57 children signed up with only 5 unable to attend. Each child got a free book and a bag of candy.

Council member Lori McCaffree reported on the Community Building. She requested Feb. 9 for a Valentine’s Day party.

During New Business, the council accepted the resignation of Council member Jones. Mayor Coulter asked that anyone contact City Hall if they have a suggestion on who could fill the vacancy. The council approved for McCaffree to be the new check signer to replace Jones.

The council also discussed water tower cleaning. Mayor Coulter explained that the city has a contract with Viking for cleaning the water tower every three years. Viking contacted Coulter and explained that the tower should have been pressure washed and inspected in 2024, however that did not get done and they will get to in 2025. The council discussed the cost of $1,500. The council approved to proceed with contacting Viking and discussing the details and the possibility of extending the contract to 2031 since Viking is a year behind.

The council also received information on training opportunities.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The council also held a meeting on Feb. 12. The next city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on March 12.
