Lady Tornado Harlie Owings Claimed Championship Honors At Wichita South

Eureka Lady Tornado Harlie Owings claimed championship honors at the Wichita South girls invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1. Owings pinned her way to a 3-0 first place finish, in the girls 170 division.

Members of the boys junior varsity (JV) team also made the trip for their annual JV invitational. Tornado senior Ethan Bauer also went 3-0 for the day to claim championship honors in the boys 190 JV contest.

Following are the individual results for Eureka participants: 170: Harlie Owings (25-7) placed 1st. She won by fall over Emercyn McGinnis (Winfield HS) 4-11 (Fall 1:13); won by fall over Kaylee Horinek (Wellington HS) 11-8 (Fall 3:53); and won by fall over Aariah Remmert (Wichita- Northwest) 13-13 (Fall 2:53).

Wichita South JV BOYS 175: Hunter Swartz lost by fall to Grayson Lubers (Wichita- Haysville Campus HS) (Fall 1:15); and lost by fall to Roman Tra (Wichita-Bishop Carroll HS) (Fall 0:27).

BOYS 175: Kadin Deshane placed 4th. He lost a 0-16 tech fall to Seth Esau (Newton HS); won by fall over Elijah Hutto (Wichita-South HS) (Fall 1:35); won by fall over Grayson Lubers (Wichita-Haysville Campus HS) (Fall 1:13); and lost a 6-8 decision to Chase Smith (Maize South HS).

BOYS 190: Ethan Bauer placed 1st. He won by fall over Keandrea Metcalf (Wichita-South HS) (Fall 3:02); won a 16-0 tech fall over Seth Weakly (Wichita-Heights HS) (TF 16-0); and won by fall over Jordan Goode (Newton HS) (Fall 0:57).

The Tornado wrestling team traveled to Erie on Tuesday, Feb. 4 for the Tri-Valley League Tournament. They will compete at the annual Circle Tournament this weekend, Feb. 7-8, before competing in regional action. The Lady Tornadoes will travel to Rossville Feb. 14-15 for Regionals. The boys will compete at the Fredonia Regionals on Feb. 22. Qualifying wrestlers will advance to 3-1A State in Hays, Feb. 28-March 1.
