Junior High Boys Swept Chargers Of Cherryvale

Eureka’s Junior High Tornado basketball teams traveled to Cherryvale on Monday, Jan. 20 where the Tornadoes went 3-2 as the boys swept the Chargers.

The Tornado A-team boys jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the first and were up 17-10 at halftime. With one quarter remaining, Eureka had a commanding 31-16 lead; however, the Chargers fought hard in the final quarter and the buzzer sounded with just one basket separating the teams. The Tornadoes came away with the victory, 38-36.

Eureka’s A-team girls were within a basket throughout the game, trailing 2-3 after one, 4-5 after two and 8-10 after three. The Lady Tornadoes were outscored 4-10 in the final quarter to fall 12-20. Scoring for Eureka were Abby Foth and Annabell Bogle each with 4 and Kaylee Palmer and Alivia Hare both with 2.

The Tornadoes B-team boys claimed a 26-23 victory over the Chargers and the C-team boys won with a 27-16 victory.

The Lady Tornadoes B-team outscored the Chargers in the second and third quarters, but couldn’t overcome the deficit caused in the first and last quarter. Eureka fell 28-32. Scoring for the Lady Tornadoes were Andee Weatherby 12, Palmer and Hare each with 6 and McKenna McDonald with 4.

Next Up

The Tornadoes are slated to face the Yellowjackets of Fredonia this Thursday, Jan. 31 at home for their final regular season match up. The Junior High Tornadoes will conclude their season the first week of February in the Tri-Valley League Tournament (Feb. 3 at Bluestem; Feb. 6 at Galesburg at Feb. 8 TBD).
