The Community Benefit Women’s Educational Club (WEC) held their monthly meeting at the Eureka United Methodist Church at noon on Jan. 16. Hostesses were Patsy Garner and Wanda Frakes. Special guests were: Ben Sims, Greenwood County Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent, Alisha Fisher, Greenwood County Family and Community Wellness Agent, and Kim Fogle, Office Professional Greenwood County Extension. Sims introduced Fisher to the group and she shared her background and answered questions posed by members. It was voted to make the club’s annual donations to the Eureka Public Library, Greenwood County 4-H, Greenwood County Historical Society, and Piedmont Recreation Center. The group raises funds at the Ice Cream Social in August which is held each year at the Piedmont Community Center.
The program was presented by Jan Stephens, retired KSU Extension Family Consumer Science Agent, who shared the very interesting history of the state song, “Home On The Range.” She followed the presentation with Kansas trivia in honor of Kansas’ birthday on Jan. 29.
The next meeting will be Feb. 20, at the Eureka Methodist Church at noon. Guests are welcome.
