Two Lady Tornadoes traveled to Newton last week for a two-day event, as they competed at the fourth annual Newton Girls Tournament of Champions.
Eureka junior Harlie Owings claimed sixth place honors in the 170-pound weight class. Lady Tornado sophomore Maela Neill went 2-2 at the tournament.
Following are the individual match results for Neill and Owings: 125: Maela Neill (178) lost a 0-15 tech fall to Brynn Lowe (Blue Valley Southwest) 20-6; received a bye; won by fall over Bella Scribner (Seneca ) 1111 (Fall 0:49); and lost by fall to Jordan Henry (Rose Hill) 11-9.
170: Harlie Owings (16-7) placed 6th. She received a bye; lost a 2-4 decision to Kodi Waite (Salina Central); won by fall over Harley Lankford (Seneca ) 13-10 (Fall 2:57); won by fall over Johana Jasper (Salina South) 1-2 (Fall 2:18); won by fall over Stefania Aranguiz (Rose Hill) 6-2 (Fall 3:27); won by fall over Tacey Barrett (Salina South) 10-9 (Fall 1:28); lost by fall to Chloe Spears (Derby) 18-5; and lost by fall to Kirra Stevens (Great Bend) 22-7 (Fall 4:14).
